Coming soon – a collection of textile and fibre samples to support your Sustainable Textiles teaching. Dip into the bag (made from rescued fabric) and find:
Jacob’s sheep wool with natural colours – used for fibre to make woollen jumpers
Silk cocoons – empty after the silk worm has been removed
Tussah silk fibre – from silk for wild silk worms that eat food other than mulberry leaves. The yarn is uneven with slub.
Hand woven cotton – woven by Indian weavers who work on non-electric looms – sustainable in that it keeps villagers at work in their villages.
Plastic bottle fibre
Recycled sari yarn – handspun from the waste silk ends from the manufacture of sari fabrics.
Shoddy – fabric made from recycled wool used for carpet underlay
